Once again I have to eat my words - it's not as though that doesn't happen often. I'm having the (as I called it) "sorry excuse for furniture" repaired and reupholstered. Several years ago I had a man and wife team upholster several pieces for me and they are still perfect - better than new, really. I recently recommended them to my friend and neighbor, Shirley. Today the fellow returned her sofa and four club chairs looking like new. Then it hit me - why on earth didn't I have them evaluate my loveseat to see if it's worth repairing and reupholstering. After evaluating the loveseat he pointed out where the problem is (it's the springs) and it's an easy fix. The frame is solid wood - well built. Needless to say I'm having the "sorry excuse for furniture" repaired and recovered. He'll pick it up next week and bring fabric samples. This won't take any longer than ordering a new loveseat and waiting for it to be delivered. I'm very happy with this arrangement.
The boys will be here in about 45 minutes and I have to be ready to play Nana. It's not like that's a problem - it's my favorite role. Well, except for being Harry's bestest buddy and sweetheart.

Good idea having your love seat redone...I did that with a favorite chair and it is still in good shape after 40 years. Have fun doing our favorite thing...(Nana)...and tell the boys hello from me. I can't wait to hear their first stories!
I need to have our den sofa recovered. I'm having problems finding the shade of red I want to use--you know to match the red/rust in the rug that also matches my toenail polish and flip flops. LOL!
Val, We should have a good story ready for publication after their visit the first of the week. We've been busy finding bugs for Jesse's collection and helping James with Noggin on line.
Tee, Can I suggest checking out Sirs Fabrics in Fayetteville, TN. They have a web site (www.sirsfabric.com/) and will send samples for a small fee. I've had them ship fabrics to me. You'll never find fabric at a better price for the same quality. Even if you don't see something of interest, it's fun to look at their on-line inventory. I have to admit the exact shade of red you're looking for may be a challenge but if you hurry and shop before the wound heals you'll have a perfect sample with you for comparison. (Sorry just couln't resist.) I can't get blogger to allow me to make a link but you can cut and paste the web address if you're interested.
I like the idea of having the furniture redone. I haven't thought of that, either, and we do need a new sofa. However, my youngest son needs a new sofa worse, so...I expect I will buy a new one and give him my current one...LOL
I'm sure you had a wonderful day with your boys...
Have a great weekend, Mary.
Hugs.
:)
i should look into that-- i have a really nice couch..and a really nice chair-- that are both now-- basically destryed by cat claws-- but i could never replace with the same quality of furniture--- i wonder what re-covering it would cost.... hmmm.
i have thought of basic store bought covers-- but i don't even know the first thing about measuring for those-- or how to go about finding the shapes i need .. these are kinda odd shaped things.
good idea tho-- if i don't forget in the next half hour.
have a good rest of the weekend
Soul, I've had several things reupholstered and am glad I did. I've also tried slipcovers. Unless they are custom made it's hard to keep them neat. At least that's my experience.
I had a husband and wife team come to my house to discuss reupholstering my Flexsteel couch, but it was too expensive. I'm so glad you found a remedy to your problem. It worked out perfectly.
